Price considerations often come into play when selecting a tattooist but bargain hunting is not an advisable approach for something as permanent as a tattoo. Since artists' business are dependent on satisfied customers though, most artists will give you a fair value price for your tattoo.
If budget is a concern share this with your tattoo artist. They might be able to modify the design to make it less expensive.
Keep in mind that the tattoo artist typically gets about half the cost of the tattoo while the tattoo shop gets the other half. Both have to pay for various things before they make a profit: utilities, advertising, supplies, sterilization, etc. You should be prepared to tip your artist if you are happy with the work done, anywhere from 15% to 25% is usual.
